A sales tax exemption certificate can be used by businesses (or in some cases, individuals) who are making purchases that are exempt from the District Of Columbia sales tax. Retailers buying wholesale goods for the purpose of resale are not subject to Washington D.C.'s sales tax. When making the purchase, they should produce this exemption certificate to the seller. The seller is advised to keep this certificate on file as proof of the retailer's tax-exempt status.
